The members of the 29thSynodical Assembly of the Silesian Evangelical Church of the A.C. (SCEAV) have elected Jan Wacławek as the new bishop in its first session. He is the seventh bishop of the SCEAV. He has succeeded Stanislav Pietak, bishop emeritus, who left his office in March 2011. The term of the SCEAV bishop is 6 years.

 

Jan Wacławek comes from the Bystřice community, in 1978 he graduated from the Slovak Evangelical Theological Faculty in Bratislava and on the 13th of August, 1978 he was installed into the office of a minister of the Silesian Evangelical Church of the A. C.

During the years of 1980-1989 he worked as pastor in a parish of Orlová: from 1980 to 1983 as an assistant pastor, 1983 to 1989 as the administrative pastor.

Since 1990 he has been working in the SCEAV parish in Návsí, where he was elected as pastor in 1993.

During the years 1993-1998 he was the circuit counsellor of the Upper Circuit of the SCEAV. After the change of the organizational structure of the church in 1998 he became the circuit counsellor of the Jablunkov circuit.

From 2000 to 2010 he was the president of the Silesian diacony board. Since 2006 he has been a member of the SCEAV Church Council and exercised the capacity of the SCEAV vice-bishop.

He worked as an instructor of dogmatics in the Division of Christian Education of the Chair of Social Sciencesat Ostrava University.Synod_2011
