What we believe

31. March 2014 Written by

Our church grows out of the apostolic teaching as understood by the Reformation and subsequently by the revival movements in the history of our church.

The preamble in the Constitution of SECAC says:

“The believers in the triune God united in the Silesian Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession are part of Christ´s Church. Our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ established the Church Himself and ordained Her mission. He is the head of the Church and He entrusted to Her the greatest gift that is the Gospel. That is why evangelism, missions and ministry to the needy are manifestations of the living church.
The basis of the teachings of the church is the Bible, which is the inspired and infallible Word of God. The church endorses the Augsburg Confession (1530), as well as other symbolic books of this confession which present an expression of the historical and spiritual bond with the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther.“

The corpus of all our confessional (symbolical) writings is contained in the Book of Concord.

Who are we?

The Silesian

Our church operates especially in the territory of Těšín Silesia in the Moravskoslezský region in the north-eastern corner of the Czech Republic, bordering on Poland and Slovakia. It associates with believers especially of Czech and Polish nationality and worship services are held in both languages.

The church is the assembly of saints in which the gospel is taught purely and sacraments administered rightly.

Augsburg confession, article 7 – Concerning the church

The church has 22 congregations, with preaching and mission stations. According to statistics from the year 2007 our church has 15 357 members. Hence it is the largest Lutheran church in the country

Church

Although we are one of many denominations, we believe in one Church of Christ. As a part of this catholic Church it is our desire to fulfil the mission to preach the Gospel purely, rightly administer the Sacraments and conduct a life of God´s people by
- worshipping the triune God
- mutual service in love
- helping the needy
- gaining and teaching new disciples of Christ

Evangelical

As history and theology are concerned, we belong to the family of the so called Protestant churches that came up from the Reformation of the 16th century. In our teaching and proclamation we lay stress on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, i.e. "the good tidings" of God´s grace and the salvation of man through faith in Jesus Christ.

Augsburg confession

This annex specifies an evangelical identity and it means that we profess above all the legacy of Luther´s Reformation. The Augsburg confession was submitted to the Caesar, Charles the V, in Augsburg, Germany, in 1530 and since then it presents one of the basic doctrinal pillars of all Lutherans.

History and Present of the Church:
